“Sea n’ Art” in Beirut Souks

The setup of an innovative art exhibition at the Souks dubbed, “Sea n’ Art” was announced in a press conference held on Wednesday the 12th of June 2013 in Beirut souks, in partnership with Big Time to launch the art exhibition in the Souks on July 3rd 2013.

Randa Armanazi, the Communications and Public Relations Director, said “ss of the 3rd of July, the streets of Beirut Souks will welcome the designs of 50 artists and inventors who will showcase their interpretations of the Lebanese Dorade fish also known as the “fridna” that has played an indispensable role in Beirut’s aquatic heritage.  The artist Colette Tabet will be designing the fish’s main sculpture.”

Armanazi continued, “This activity is not the first of its kind to take place in Beirut. The Beirut Central District has previously welcomed an exhibition for cows designed by various Lebanese artists, and these pieces are still available within specific associations and art groups.”

Armanazi also confirmed, “Beirut Souks has always been a hub for trade businesses and has once again become a space for art and social activities. Seeking to make art available for everyone and encouraging innovation and creativity have always been part of Solidere’s policy as it hopes to maintain Beirut’s image as a highly active capital and a leader in bringing cultural initiatives.”

Big Time’s Manager, Paul Sabbagh, also had a few words to say about the concept of the exhibition mainly being a humanitarian cause whereby all the resulting proceeds will be donated to 3 non-profit organizations that are involved in children’s health: Tamanna, Heartbeat and Toufoula.

Migration to cities is increasing so much that, by 2050, the UN predicts that approximately two thirds of the world’s population will be living in cities.
