ART From Lebanon
“Art from Lebanon”, the first retrospective Lebanese fine contemporary art exhibition, constituting a journey through Lebanon’s history and heritage,is presented by Solidere’s Beirut Exhibition Center. It reflects Lebanon’s many political, social, and cultural vicissitudes, but also the constructive changes and evolutions, that marked and shaped the country as we know it today. “Art from Lebanon” fulfils a mission of civil and national duty, giving access to treasures of private and public collections, many of which were never shown before.
The inauguration of the exhibition will be simultaneously held with a signature ceremony by co-writers Nour Salamé Abillama and Marie Tonb on their book which holds the same title as the showcase. The book documents careers and important achievements of the artists being showcased in “Art from Lebanon” and who were active in the era between 1880 and 1975. This period witnessed the institutionalization of the arts, with the appearance of artists’ studios, the professionalization of painting and sculpture, and the creation of art schools and universities. The returns collected from the book sales will go to Dar Al Amal Association.
The showcase will continue until the 9th of December 2012 and opens its doors from 11 am till 8 pm.
