BSE Market Activity Continues to Plunge

The BSE total trading volume reached 30.8 million shares in the first half of 2012, amid the growing fears of instability,down 42% from the same last year period.

The aggregate turnover amounted to $235.1 million, down 31% from a turnover of $340.8 million in the first half of 2011, according to figures issued by Beirut Stock Exchange (BSE).

 

Market capitalization declined by 11.1% from end-June 2011 to $10.1billion, of which 74.4% was in banking stocks, 21.5% in real estate stocks, 3.6% in industrial stocks, and 0.3% each for fund stocks and trading stocks. It’s worth mentioning that tn the first quarter of 2012, the market activity at the BSE plunged 47 percent compared to same last year period.
