Starting in 2015

The Ministry of Energy & Water estimates that offshore gas and oil exploration and drilling, would start by the end of 2015. “The Lebanese government would bring a return of almost $8 billion annually from first oil or gas discovery to the next 20 years,” the energy and privatization consultant Roudi Baroudi said in a study conducted in 2008. The production rate is to be 240,000 bbl per day over 20 years, Baroudi states, pointing out that the local consumption is estimated to be 80,000 bbl per day. The Ministry launched on February 15, 2013, the pre-qualification phase for companies interested in participating in the first exploration licensing round.

According to the Ministry, 29 international firms have recently shown interest in bidding. The deadline to submit the bids is set for March 28, 2013
