Urging Farmers to Export to Iraq, Libya, Egypt, GCC

As a result of the drop in agricultural exports, an agreement has been reached between the Investment Development Authority of Lebanon (IDAL)

and the Ministry of Transportation and Public Works,  the Directorate General of Customs and exporters to keep meetings open, to remove export barriers of Lebanese products, and fight against smuggling of agricultural goods to Lebanon, Agriculture Minister Hussein Hajj Hassan said.


He called on exporters to exert more efforts to export to Iraq, Libya, Egypt and the GCC markets, especially in light of the unstable situation in Syria in order to address the problem of low consumption and replace exports to the Syrian market.

On the subject of high freight rates, and the lack of a sufficient number of refrigerated trucks in Lebanon, announced that it was agreed with the Minister of Transport and Public Works to issue another decision allowing all trucks coming from Arab countries to enter Lebanon, after the decision taken recently, allowing refrigerated trucks coming from Kuwait to enter Lebanon, to load products.

Nabil Itani, General Manager of (IDAL) stressed that the government made a decision to support the Lebanese agricultural exports through the development of agricultural exports, Agri Plus, which aims to improve the stimulation of production and packaging markets and increase the volume of exports. He pointed out that, within six months the Board of Directors has taken a number of decisions, such as enhancing citrus export support.

Words of Alhaji Hassan and Itani came during a meeting held this morning at IDAL headquarters to view the problems facing the export of agricultural products and provide solutions.
