20,187 new passenger cars were sold in the first seven months of 2012, registering a rise of 8.8% from the 18,556 cars sold in the same last year period, according to the Association of Automobile Importers in Lebanon.
Car sales increased by 10.8% in the first half of 2012, totaling 16,850 new passenger cars from the 15,211 cars sold in the same period last year, according to figures released by the Association of Automobile Importers in Lebanon.
Public sector salaries, wages and related benefits totaled $628.9 million in the first quarter of 2012, constituting a decline of 10.7% from the same last year quarter, according to figures issued by the Ministry of Finance. The ministry attributed the drop to a 7.3% decrease in basic salaries and a 55.7% decline in allowances. Indemnities increased by 2%.
Loans extended to small and medium companies under the guarantee of Kafalat reached $71.4 million in the first half of 2012, down 11.4% from $80.5 million in the same period last year according to figures released by the Kafalat Corporation.
Total imports attained $4.3 billion in the first two months of 2012, registering an increase of of 44% from the same last year period. Exports increased by 29% to $777 million, leading to a trade deficit of $3.5 billion, up 48% year-on-year.

Lebanon’s gross public debt totaled $53.6 billion at the end of January 2012, remaining unchanged from the end of 2011, and up by 2.6% from end-January 2011. Commercial banks accounted for 50.7% of the local public debt at the end-January 2012.
Number of credit and debit cards issued in Lebanon totaled 1,783,962 cards at the end- 2011, registering a marginal 0.3% rise from end-September, and a 6.4% increase from end 2010, figures revealed by Lebanon’s Central Bank show.
